Thanks to everyone for their preparedness, decisiveness and efficiency. Thanks as always to Bocce Balls' Terry Gray the official projector provider of the FFFL. I will thank Linda for the photo, after I have received it (hint).
Announcements
This year's Jaco Award for the most redundant drafter goes to Dr. Chuck, who one of these years will bring a list for crossing off player names.
In Seinfield lore, there was the Low Talker and the Close Talker. Our first ever Slow Drafter Award goes to Dr. Mike.
Award Winning Fast Drafters were Linda and Jordan. We might award a Puffy Shirt if only we could find one.
We have $50 in gift certificates from Buffalo Wild Wings to use for a mid season gathering.
My beloved Ricky Williams/ Mike Ditka photo has been retired - for now.
This year's division names are inspired by Search Engine era. They are not my best creations and I am open to better ideas.

Nazi Power Ratings are back for the sixth year. Starters at each position are rated along with depth and each owner's reputation for their ability to upgrade (Rep) through trades and claims. Attempting to put quantitative values on speculative and qualitative elements is a system that can have it's flaws. Look no further than Olympic judging of gymnastics and figure skating. That said, the NPR system usually nails at least 4 of our 6 playoff teams.
The question before us: Who drafted this year's dominant team? This year's answer is no one.
By
the luck of the draw, this division is full of heavy hitters. No ordinary
Yahoos. Reputation ratings and rosters are stronger than their Google
Division counterparts. Note that the ratings for the top five teams are within 1
Nazi Power Point. So it is really a pick-em scenario. For the sake
of comparison, last season's high NPR was 81. This season it's 77.5. We
are missing a powerhouse team. A 10-6 record likely wins this division.
Pete Roselle always dreamed of league parity. Yahoo!, we've arrived.
For the record, after four weeks and five games, the average Yahoo Division team is scoring at a rate of 66.1 Points Per Game, while those Googlers are averaging a meager 58.3. That's difference of just under 8 PPG. Don't know when we've seen such a difference. So if this continues the six Yahoo teams will be battling for four available playoff positions all season long. It will come down to all-play winning percentage. This means it will be like the BCS where running up the score improves your chances. It's not like you'd rest your starters anyway but scoring points will mean more than wins. But that's how you win anyway.

The Pants, if that's their real name for this season, nearly avoided the Kiss of Death by not drafting a kicker. But the Nazi would not be fooled for long. Even with a low rating for Mr. Mystery Kicker, they still have slight edge over those other Yahoos. If the mystery kicker was Robbie Gould they might still be the favorite.
Lingering concerns...
Tom Brady is missing some targets but will likely find new ones. After all, he succeeded in college with David Terrell. Chambers finally has a strong armed QB. And Derrick Mason is happily reunited with McNair and should thrive again. If Hines' hammy heals, they have the strongest WR trio in the league.
The kiss of death haunts Dr. K. Brady does miss his WRs. WRs taken in rounds 3, 4 and 5 have all disappointed. Only Williamson and FA Colston have been respectable.

Portis falling to the 3rd round and Gates to the fourth proved irresistible enough to alter the master plan. Last season's high scoring Nazis were uncharacteristically powered by receivers. While two have returned (Holt and Gates), RBs may be the new Nazi hallmark. RB Ronnie Brown (with no Ricky) is also back on the roster now paired with Portis who would have been a first rounder if not for that shoulder thing that may cause him to miss week one. If so, Thomas Jones should fill in nicely and run all over the Packers. Betts provides Portis insurance (Duckett is the short yardage/goal line guy). Bidding for Benson might have been better but Bryant, Brown and Braylon beckoned. Bryant and Braylon ARE better than the benched Benson.
This year's fate is tied heavily to the Eagles with their QB, K and WR. If the Andy Reid finds a cure for their TO hangover, that might be a good thing. If they can stay healthy and play from behind, all the better. Having a share of the Eagles offense is a good thing. McNabb is playing like a 1st rounder. But Akers kicks more PATs than FGs.
At WR, Holt is money. But new Niner Antonio Bryant will not be as Boldin-esque as last year's #2 WR. Help will be needed from Brown and/or Edwards. Or a new acquisition... Bryant has outscored Bolden with Edwards better yet.
Should injuries occur to LT, Dunn or most likely DeShawn Foster, WR help should be secured. Despite some depth, RBs and WRs be hit hard on two of the bye weeks. Betts, Turner and Norwood have all had 100 yard games in relief roles.
McNabb and Portis playing like first rounders and the young WRs living up to the Nazi expectations, the Nazis stand atop the MyFantasyLeague Power Rankings. Weeks 7 through 9 will pose bye week challenges.

Last year, Terry took rookie JJ Arrington, then Stephen Jackson in rounds 2 & 3. He reached for an unproven rookie then recovered. This year it was a similar scenario with Addai and Bush where his second starter is their 3rd RB taken. I may have missed on this one as Bush breakout has not yet occured. While I would be worried about Darrell Jackson's health, if Deion Branch returns to find happiness with Tom Brady, all will be well. The Seahawks spread it around almost as much as the Pats. Favre will need to rack up enough yardage to overcome all of his interception deductions and footwork failings. Vinatieri's injury has not received too much play, so I assume he's OK and will kick indoors as planned.
So as Power Ratings go, this year's B-Balls will roll out their deepest most talented roster in several years. Still true, though WR core is thinner than first projected as McCardell has faded into Phillip Rivers oblivion. |

Larry Johnson is potentially huge assuming that the Chief are not playing from behind. Is this a fair assumption? Julius Jones is fragile and Frank Gore may also be playing from behind too frequently. Potentially their trio of WRs are the second best of a strong division. This assumes that talented Roy Williams will thrive in Martz's offense, which remains to be seen. Eli should prove to be a bargain. While overall depth is as good as it gets, Bennett and Barber are missing.
The emergence of Coles gives them the best 1-2-3 WR punch in the league. They would be the new favorite if not for the Titanic Trade of Julius Jones. There is now little insurance for the inevitable Gore-y injury |

I have two issues with their roster.
I expect Lee Evans to be up and down, perhaps like Stallworth in the past. There's nothing not to like about Carson Palmer's potential. The Gamblers have cornered the market on QBs. If only they were a scarce commodity!
The emergence of talented ex-Gofer, Maroney and FA TE Desmond Clark were unknown after the draft. It is unusual in Fantasy Football for Defense and Special Teams to make much difference. For the Gamblers it does. They are very tough to beat when Wilkens and the Bears can get them 25 points. Too bad their WRs have under performed.

There is nothing wrong with this roster that a consistently productive QB wouldn't cure. I don't see him there yet. I believe that Burress will outperform Mini-Moss. Terry Glenn looks better than ever. After that, WR depth looks thin. Taking RBs 1-2 provided two reliable players.
The newly named Hawks won at Stump the Commish. PJ Daniels was off my radar.
If we had the draft on our traditional, earlier date, I suspect that Walli would have been mine in the 10th. My Fast Willie Parker deja vu was not to be. Time will tell if they overbid for landing Lundy or if he is this year's Fast Willie.
Hey Jules, don't make it bad. Take a sad team and make it better.
With apologies to Lennon and McCartney, the Julius Jones trade has done just that while unloading Walli who proved not to live up to the hype or 6th round status. With three strong WRs combined with 3 solid RBs, they can now contend in this competitive division. |
11 Lamont Jordan RB 14 Willis McGahee RB 35 Santana Moss WR 38 Plaxico Burress WR 59 Terry Glenn WR 62 Walli Lundy RB 83 Jason Whitten TE 86 Drew Brees QB 107 Roddy White WR 110 Tampa Bucs D 131 Mike Vanderjagt K 134 Marion Barber RB 155 Brandon Lloyd WR 158 Cedtrick Fasson RB 179 Vernon Davis TE 182 Alex Smith QB 203 Hank Basket WR 206 Reche Caldwell WR 227 PJ Daniels RB 230 Rasheed Davis WR |
The Striders have won a league title without much maneuvering. No one else in the division can make that claim. No heavy hitters here. Picks to click are the Commanders and the Young Guns. I predict none of wild card teams will come from this unproven group.

Some were surprised to see Dunn as a first rounder. I was more disappointed as he was our #7 RB last season. I targeted him in round 3 as he traditionally gets no respect. Smith and Wayne almost sounds like something Clint Eastwood would carry around. A scary pair of WRs. At #3 WR there is a drop off. TE Winslow could surprise (got one right), but is fragile and unproven. Fred Taylor is proven fragile. With both RBs on the wrong side of 30, and their backups drafted by others some dealing may be required to secure sleep. If Addai gains favor in Indy, the Commanders could face a couple of lean bye weeks unless Travis Henry really is the starter for Jeff Fisher. From the looks of their early activity, their reputation may have been underrated. Their rep improved with the claims of Gould, Cotchery and Travis Taylor..
In addition to their old RBs, they've gained surprise help from another oldster, Isaac Bruce who has made up for the Jerry Porter/Raider mess.

Kevin Jones has to be better this year. Right? Randy Moss is back to his old self, isn't he? His disruptive self. Horn and Gonzo must have enough left in their aging bodies. Well, maybe. Jordan can only hope. Cadillac should have enough in his tank to be a productive contributor. Too bad Keyshawn couldn't have stayed in Dallas. It could have been a new MTV reality series. In Carolina he can say give me the damn ball all he wants. It remains The Steve Smith Show. In this new year Smith is a missing gun. Speaking of missing guns, one more question: Marshall Faulk? I don't believe that studio hosts on The NFL Channel can score points. You could have waited until the 20th round for sure. That's were he got Sammy Morris who will be another missing gun with his pending steroid suspension. Not sure if Emmitt Smith gets fantasy points for Dancing With The Stars. He won't be in my lineup. Ouch! With Cadillac, Randy Moss and Jake Plummer, it's gotten ugly early. Vernand Morency could prove to be a valuable addition. Imagine this: Randy Moss, team captain. And we wonder why the Raiders are so messed up. |

While E-James was our #2 RB last year, I can't help recalling the real estate axiom: location, location, location. He is in a location where the likes of Emmitt Smith and Thomas Jones couldn't make it happen. Could this year be different? Many believe so. I don't. (Chester Taylor's been better which may make up for Edge) Dominick Davis and Ron Dayne may soon be unemployed.(or relocated and in the case of Dayne, dropped too soon.) Javon Walker may be a year away from being fully recovered from knee reconstruction. (missed on that one) There are several potentially positive prognostications. Ben Watson could be the next Antonio Gates. (they're equally mediocre in 2006) Matt Jones may be able to fill Jimmy Smith's shoes-if he could just stay on the field. Chad Johnson should still be Chad Johnson. (85 divided by 2 = disappointment) Delhomme will likely the better of the NFL's two Jakes. (a no brainer)
Their first two picks need to play to their draft status. |

Never before have we seen the poetic combination of Shaun and DeShaun. If TO can behave himself and get on the field, the duo of Fitzgerald and Owens will rival the Commanders combustive combo of Smith and Wayne.
Several things to lose sleep over with this team.
These occurrences could result in de-feats. At least they're well stocked with de-fenses.
With their #1 and #3 picks battling injuries and their QB demoted the results have been de-pressing.

The Edge giveth and the Edge taketh away.
With the Colts running attack still uncertain with Edge's exit, Peyton's passing propensity is a potentially higher priority. And he might be really good! Kitna could be a sleeper in Mike Martz's system.
When you're the only one to grab a QB in round 1, Running Back Quest ensues. With Westbrook and Droughns, the quest proved successful.Westbrook needs to get well soon. Moats is (was) nice insurance. Also rung the right Bell.
Andre Johnson and the Texans' passing game may be poised for a comeback. I'm not sold.(OK now I am) I also sense a potential for a meltdown with Kennison and the Chiefs. So while QB and RBs are solid, the WRs may hinder their chances. Neil Rackers was my secret weapon last year (until he got hurt). He single handedly overcome other shortcomings. This year his team might actually score more TDs with Edge added to the arsenal. But even if Rackers is 10% less productive, it can be a worthy advantage. Boostied their Rep with the best job working the waiver wire to bolster WR depth.
Not my fault! How did this 5-0 team miss being picked to click? The schedule maker has been kind so far as their opponents have averaged a league low 55 ppg. They may face some double header sweeps vs. Yahoo teams that consistently score over 70 ppg. Is there anyone in this division that could challenge them for 2nd place? I don't see them yet.

OK! Quick! Who was the #1 RB in our scoring system last year?
It was Tiki. A bargain at #4.
Cory Dillion will be pushed by Maroney. (yes and it will likely get worse for Cory) Mike Bell may pan out to be the better Bell and a star (or not). We don't know yet and these issues held down their ratings along with their collection of second and third tier WRs that don't scare me in the least. Todd Heap could be a top tier TE. But will The Tiki and Todd Show may not be enough to win consistently?
Vick+Tiki+Todd+Moose still not enough to contend. Unless Rod Smith recovers, these WRs are really sad. The top waiver wire position has not been utilized.
Wheaton Striders? Sycamore Striders? When will the Commish step in to put a stop on all of this franchise relocation? Might have to promise the fans of Wheaton an expansion team.

Annual HO HO HO!
I've heard it said a fantasy football draft is like Christmas morning. Or Festivous for the rest of us. After much anticipation, making our lists, checking them twice, we finally get to open our presents, see what we got and play with our new toys.
|
We look at our talent. We all have some needs. The rosters were posted to the website with care with hopes that from injuries we all will be spared.
The Nazi has added his annual wit Designed to give owners some thoughts of OH S#@t! But we hear him exclaim with analysis past, Good luck to you all, before I kick you ass.
