2007 RULES

New rules for 2007 are printed in red.

ROSTERS & LINEUPS

Each week your lineup is submitted to the Commissioner. The lineup should consist of the following:

  • 1 QUARTERBACK
  • 2 RUNNING BACKS
  • 3 WIDE RECEIVERS
  • 1 TIGHT END
  • 1 PLACE KICKER
  • 1 TEAM DEFENSE

ROSTERS: Each team has a roster limit of 21. The first 20 positions will be filled by the draft. The final position will be filled by claims after week 1. This includes position players, kickers and defenses. These roster positions are initially filled by the draft. After the draft, players/defenses can be acquired by waiver claims or by trades with other team owners. When players/defenses are acquired, you must make the equivalent number of cut(s) from your roster to stay within the 21-position limit. The player that you cut is then available for other teams to claim.

No team may carry more than TWO: Defenses or place kickers (unless two kickers are from the same NFL team).

Week One Claim Rule: After week 1, the roster limit is expanded to 21. From the noon on the Sunday of week one, until the following Tuesday at 8 PM, all free agents are Restricted (subject to claim by teams with lesser records). For week one, claim priority is in reverse order of the standings. This is for week one only. Claims must be submitted by email in order of preference. One claim selection per team will be awarded until all claims are processed. Teams submitting more than one claims should also include a prioritized cut list to maintain the roster limit. Ties will be broken by going in reverse order of the first round of the draft. If you just want to fill your roster and do not want to make a cut.

Player Positions

Positions are determined by the myfantasyleague.com website.

THE DRAFT

The 20 round draft is scheduled for August 29. The draft order will be determined by a random, electronic lottery in advance of the draft. Results of the Draft Lottery will be posted on the League Web Site. ANY of the nine lineup positions (QB, RB, WR, TE, defenses & kickers) can be selected in any round. The drafting order is reversed each round. The time limits for each selection will be enforced as necessary. Team owners or a designated representative must be present at the draft. No owner may draft more than one team.

No team may draft more than two:

  • Kickers (unless two are on the same NFL team)

  • Team Defenses

LEAGUE ENTRY FEE:

  • $85.00 - payable at the draft.
  • The Commissioner is comp-ed for half the entry fee in exchange for services rendered.
  • There are no fees for trades or claims.

LINEUPS

Every team owner is responsible for maintaining a current lineup each week. This is done by posting your lineup selections to the league web site prior to the kickoff of the first NFL game (clarified 11-26-04).  Amendments to lineups must be submitted prior to kickoff for each your player's games for the week.  After you have submitted your lineup, it can be amended on line until five minutes prior to kickoff for each player's game. (i. e. for weeks with Thursday games, your players involved in those games must be in your lineup prior to their Thursday kickoff. After kickoff, a player selection is locked in and can not be changed.  The rest of your lineup positions may be changed up until kickoff for Sunday's early games.) A warning to procrastinators: the league will not modify lineups due to slow server problems with heavy internet traffic. Each owner is responsible for knowing the kickoff time/lineup deadlines for their players each week. If a lineup is not submitted on time, the previous week's lineup will be used.  In the event of a system crash or breakdown, lineups can be submitted to the Commissioner via email prior to kickoff: commish@fun-league.com.

The Commissioner is empowered to amend the lineups and rosters of team owners who are out of contention (not possible to finish at .500) and have not submitted a current lineup, if it is in the best interest of the competitiveness of the league. Lineups will be posted on the league web site upon submission.

SCHEDULE:  A 13 Week regular season with 16 scheduled match-ups including three double header weeks scheduled when there are no byes in the NFL schedule , - You play all 5 teams in your division twice and 6 teams outside your division once.   The teams will placed in two divisions. Each team will play two games against each team in its division with the balance of the schedule filled with random games outside of the division. Three rounds of playoffs are held in weeks 14, 15 and 16 of the NFL Season.  Results, standings and player movements will be electronically published.

SCORING

see the scoring page.

Free Agents: Claims and Cuts (Drop/add)

After the draft, the roster limit is 20. After Week One, rosters may expand to 21.

A Free Agent is any player, defense or kicker not on a FFFL roster. Dropped players must go through the weekend waiver process before they can be claimed.

Preseason Claims

Prior to a the start of the season, claims are on a first come, first served basis.

Regular Season Claims

Claims are closed at kickoff of the first game of each weekend through Tuesday at 8 AM when waiver claims are processed in reverse order of the standings.  First come, first served claims then resume until the next week's first kickoff.

Each owner is responsible for learning to use the MyFantasyLeague waiver system. Help is available either on line or from the league office.  We will not award claims after the fact to anyone who misses a claim due to not understanding how to work the system. System ignorance is no defense. Added 10-25-07

Owners may not excessively add/drop for the purpose of locking players and preventing them from being available for others to claim until after the waiver period.  If this occurs, the Commissioner is empowered to unlock dropped players prior to the waiver period as remedy and work out a strength-of-record based solution for distribution of players and penalize the offender by either reduction of roster space or suspension of claim privileges.

The official source of stats for our league is the myfantasyleague.com scoring system

Owners are responsible for verifying the scores and the legality of lineups of both their own team and their competition. Owners are responsible for notifying the commissioner/website of stat changes should they occur.

Playoff Claims

Claims are closed for the season at kickoff of the final non-playoff week.

  2. Total of starters without kickers and defenses

  3. Recalculated score using un-rounded using decimals (99 yards=9.9 points)

  4. Regular Season point totals.

TRADES

Trades may be made between owners from the end of the draft until the trading deadline. The trading deadline is three days prior to the lineup deadline for Week 10.  All trades are subject to approval by the Commissioner. Commissioner's rulings may be appealed to the League Advisory Board (Chuck and Linda). The board's two votes can overrule commissioner's decisions.

Trade judgment criteria: The purpose of a trade is to improve each team's weekly scoring potential.  Unbalanced trades will not always be overruled provided there is evidence that this stated purpose is served for all parties.  In other words, a stronger team is allowed to overpay if their post-trade lineup is perceived by the Commish to be strengthened.  Judging equal value is not a primary criteria.  Examples of suspect transactions:

  • Trades that involve damaged goods: OK if both parties accept and understand the injury status.
  • Temporary (rent-a-player) trades designed to maneuver around bye week deficiencies are strongly discouraged.
  • Trades that have the appearance of collusion or surrender.

DRAFT TRADES: Draft picks may be traded prior to the start of the draft. Draft transactions must involve an even quantity of picks to maintain roster limits.

The first and second place teams from each division will qualify for the playoffs. Wild card teams will fill two additional play-off positions. The Wild Card Teams will be selected on the basis of best All Play Record. The two division champions will receive first round play-off byes.

Owners' Responsibility Code - No Diving, please

Every team owner is responsible for

  • Maintaining competitive roster and a current lineup throughout the season.  While our stakes are moderate, there is still money involved and our membership is competitive.  Owners of out of contention teams are encouraged to respect their fellow owners by fielding a competitive lineup. Please work to avoid the appearance of tanking games or throwing in the towel.  Think of this as the golden rule of fantasy football.  If you needed help to make the playoffs, how would you feel if you saw injured or inferior players in the lineup you needed to prevail?
  • Learning to use the league management system/website tools.
  • Maintaining a working email address
  • For prompt communication on trade proposals.

COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE:

Once the season begins, the FFFL is more of a dictatorship than a democracy. The Commissioner is responsible for resolving disputes. The Commissioner's decisions can be appealed and overturned by the unanimous vote of the two member advisory committee appointed at the draft. The advisory committee will also rule in disputes involving the Commissioner's team.

Official Disclaimer

The FFFL has a long standing tradition of good natured ridicule. An oxymoron? Perhaps. But here is a definition:   Your league membership includes the likelihood that your decisions, actions, inactions or your players' performance will be scrutinized in the pursuit of comic relief, parody, irony, alliteration, or any other amusing device that our cantankerous Commissioner can concoct. The League Message Board is available for expression of conflicting views. But in the end, remember, The Nazi Rules, if not in the standings at least on this site.
