LEAGUE HISTORY |
1988 First Draft: Hershel Walker, first player selected on Commish's patio in Arlington Heights. Jerry Rice was the first WR taken, Randall Cunningham the first QB. Street & Smith's Magazine was the most popular source for pre-draft player analysis. Hand written priority lists were the most widely used draft aid. Bengal RB Icky Woods was the season's sleeper. The league's scoring was done manually with paper and calculator. Lineup forms and results were exchanged by personal delivery and by fax.
1988 Fun Bowl I won by Kelly's Heroes
1989 Draft tracked by PC. Excel system developed for scoring.
1990 Bishop's Dawgs are 1st rookie Fun Bowl Winners
The 1990s The Run & Shoot Offense produced a plethora of passing points as teams like the Houston Oilers, Lions and Falcons abandoned the TE and spread the field with smurf WRs like Earnest Givens.

1994 Draft moved from basement to Lakeside Inn
1997 Weekly Feature: Commissioners Capsule Comments debuts on standings sheet

2004 Krueger domination ends with Fun Bowl XVII defeat. Wheaton Striders become second rookie Fun Bowl winner.
2005 Commish captures 5th league scoring title and 12th playoff loss in 18 years.
2006 Draft relocates to an accommodating home at Buffalo Wild Wings.
2006 Dr. Chuck makes 6th consecutive Fun Bowl appearance and loses third straight.
The league has always employed a scoring system based on yardage of skill position players. The rules and scoring format are designed to minimize the luck factor and to minimize the number for free agents and thereby encourage trading and interaction among owners. Our yardage based system also forces owners to add some of their own analysis to magazine and internet cheat sheets that are designed for touchdown and combined scoring systems. The yardage orientated scoring system increases the value of great players like Barry Sanders that are less distinctive in leagues with scoring based systems.
If you think this league had an early start, the origin of Fantasy Football has been traced back to 1962. Check out The Birth of Fantasy Football that traces the origin of the hobby.

In the inaugural 1988 draft, Kelly O'K. missed the first three rounds due to a late running round of golf. A substitute drafter was recruited for the first three rounds. #1 & #2 picks Roger Craig and Warren Moon powered Kelly's Heroes to the first Fun Bowl Championship.
In 1991, Roy S's Swansong silenced the room by selecting Viking RB Terry Allen. A solid pick had Allen not been declared out for the season with a major knee injury.
With the 6th pick in the 1997 draft, Schmoo's Schmued Potatoes selected Cardinal RB Larry Centers. Centers was a serviceable #2 or #3 RB typically taken in round 8-10.
The 1999 Schmued Potatoes, with an eye for criminal potential, drafted both Rae Carruth (the killer) and Fred Lane (the kill-ee).
The 2001 Cobras, with the #14 pick overall, selected the recently retired Robert Smith.

We have dug deep into the past of our league's present and former owners to reveal...
FFFL Owners: Close Encounters with NFL Fame
The Hooter's Dr. Chuck K. has served numerous Chicago Bear players in his Chiropractic practice. He remains a personal friend of former patient and Titan Coach Jeff Fisher.
Roy S's (Swansong & Cornered Vermin) wife's cousin was a first round draft choice of the Bears in the 70s. He also lived across the street from The Fridge.
Mrs. Commissioner dated a 70's Chicago Bear QB before settling down with the Football Nazi.
The Football Nazi himself once showered with the' 67 Bears. They were using his H.S. field for early season practice while the Cubs occupied Wrigley Field.
